Bridger-Teton National Forest (Jackson, Wyoming)
Day 6 - Wednesday
Once again, it was wake up time at 5:30. Before we boarded buses at 6:30 we got to enjoy a beautiful Wyoming sunrise. We grabbed our
Philmont Trail meals and headed out. Once again, about half of our contingent enjoyed a recreation day while the rest of us worked in the warm sunshine.
Some hiked, some enjoyed whitewater rafting while others spent most of the day visiting Yellowstone about two hours away.
They were thrilled to see Old Faithful. We are close to finishing our assigned trail work and that’s given us a good feeling. Jim Krasula was cited by the Safety Officer for not wearing his hard hat and safety glasses while working on the trail. He threw down his gloves in disgust and told her to add that violation to the list as well. Several others were also cited for not wearing their safety glasses.
One of the highlights of our week came as we headed down the mountain to our school buses which take us to and from the work sites. Several little kids (and their parents) were there to greet us and offer us free ice cream treats. Their parents are part of a volunteer group called Friends of Pathways. That’s a sponsor of the ArrowCorps 5 project for Bridger Teton. For dinner, we were served barbecue sandwiches, chips, chocolate pudding, salad and drinks.
