Each year, upon holding a unit election for youth which results in at least one youth candidate being elected, the unit committee may nominate registered unit adult leaders, 21 years of age or older, to the Lodge Adult Selection Committee. The Committee, composed of the lodge adviser, the chair of the council committee on which the lodge adviser serves, and the lodge staff adviser, must approve each nomination as the delegates of the Scout Executive. Troops may nominate the Scoutmaster, as well as 1 additional leader per three elected Scouts. For example:
A Unit electing… may nominate…
1-3 Scouts The Scoutmaster plus One Adult
4-6 Scouts The Scoutmaster plus Two Adults
7-9 Scouts The Scoutmaster Plus Three Adults
Recommendations of the adult selection committee, with the approval of the Council Scout Executive serving as Supreme Chief of the Fire, will be candidates for induction, provided the following conditions are filled.
· Selection of the adult is based upon ability to perform the requisite functions, and not for recognition of service, including current or prior achievement and position.
· The individual will be an asset to the Order or the Arrow due to demonstrated skills and abilities, which fulfill the purpose of the Order.
· The camping requirements set forth for youth members have been fulfilled.
· The adult leader's membership will provide a positive role model for the growth and development of the youth members of the Lodge.
· Current membership in the Boy Scouts of America.
· Nomination form is completed and received by the Lodge Professional Adviser prior to June 5th.
· A Scout or Adult remains a candidate until he completes the Ordeal. A scout must complete the entire ordeal to become a member of the Order of the Arrow.
· The candidate has until May 31st of the following year to complete his ordeal, otherwise their name is dropped and they must be re-elected/selected.
· The Lodge Key Three may extend for one-year a candidate’s eligibility. A letter from the candidate explaining the reason for not attending must accompany the request for extension.
